About This Beer

It started with the word BIG. Austin Brothers Beer Co. wanted to make a big, bold beer. So when you think big, where does your mind go? Sumo, probably. And then, if you’re a beer fan, of course it’s Imperial Stout! That’s why they crafted this brew with a 4-hour boil (about 4 times the usual length of a Stout boil) and let it rest for 5 days on Sumatra Coffee, cacao nibs, and Madagascar vanilla.

Tasting Notes

Sumo Sumatra comes equipped with a hefty body, fit for the ring. Big, bold Chocolate and Midnight Malt flavors blend with fudgy sweetness in a delicate dance. Then, POW! Bittersweet cacao notes pummel the palate oh-so-pleasantly, with roasty espresso tinges lingering. After the match – erm, sip, laces of vanilla smooth out the warming, big brew.

For me, the vanilla throws me off a little. The coffee flavor is great though.

Pretty sick taste and balance. The mix if coffee and vanilla almost seems like a yohoo on steriods

Coffee baby! Sumo lip smacking good. Dark roasty coffee, very well balanced stout. Good good with pancakes and steak so I can drink it twice a day.

Rich and full bodied stout. Dangerously smooth. Would love to try a barrel aged version

It’s hot outside and cold inside, stout weather, right? Sweet Madagascar vanilla bean aroma, strong Sumatra coffee and cocoa nibs taste, smooth, thin, and very drinkable, and a sneaky finish from the high ABV with almost no discernible alcohol presence.

The flavor is on point..The body is velvety smooth..Scary easy to drink at 11%.Also to mention not anywhere near a dessert stout as mentioned in tasting notes.

This one is bitter from the coffee to the cacao nibs. Still well made and hides the abv well

From the first sip I was in LOVE! It’s like drinking a chocolate covered coffee bean. So, SO delicious! I would love this in the summer as an ice cream float.

It's hard to sip such a creamy and silky imperial. At 11%, it’ll hit you if you don't slow down.

Delicious. Perfect size for the ABV. The coffee notes along with the chocolate really go well together. The creaminess of this stout really stands out as well. All together, 5 stars. Will reorder

Aroma is huge cocoa, Sumatran coffee with vanilla. Flavor is an exact reflection of the aroma. Alcohol is pretty hidden. Body is a little thinner than I expect in style. But it’s well-made.
