A Note on This Beer
Summer is officially over, but whenever I cozy up by a fireplace, bundle up in a heavy fleece, or my spouse cranks up the thermostat higher than I thought was possible — the one thing I crave is a Pilsner.
One place I know I can find an outstanding Pils is Temescal. Hop Culture places them among a very elite 5 Best Breweries in Oakland. They say, “there’s a lot to love about Temescal Brewing’s appreciable mix of flawlessly executed classic styles.”
Temescal Headbrewer Mike Makris, formerly of The Rare Barrel, says their tasty Pils “is the result of two years of experimentation: a 5.0% ABV 'modern twist’ on one of the highest-rated beers in all of Italy on BeerAdvocate.”
Like traditional Italian Pilsners, Temescal’s Pils is dry-hopped, soft, aromatic, and finishes crisp.
Unlike the old country Pils, Temescal’s take on the style goes hard on the hops to deliver a bright and complex, fruity cereal flavor. It doesn’t adhere to any rules, and sits somewhere between a German and a Czech-style. It’s a sweet and slightly bitter new hybrid style that reflects the current trends in craft.
I’m excited to share this innovative Pils with you during my favorite time to drink it: whenever I can actually get my hands on it!
