A Note on This Beer
“The best liquid — of any kind — that I have ever tasted.”
That’s how beer critic Steve Body (a.k.a. The Pour Fool) described The Abyss (2013) in a review called ‘The Beer They’d Serve at God’s Wedding.’
Steve wasn’t the only one to flip for this release when it first hit the taproom, either. This sip of delectable darkness earned the Judges’ Award at the 2013 World Beer Championships!
Just imagine what they’d think now that the beer’s even smoother and more flavorful after a whopping 10 years in the cellar!
Aging allowed the 11% ABV to mellow into silky smoothness, wrapped in layer after layer of dark chocolate, anise, and oaky vanilla. The roasty character eased from espresso to something more like pure, bitter cocoa, allowing notes of caramel and licorice to rise to the forefront with nuances of dark cherry.
If you already have an enviable cellar, it’s time to make room for a new crown jewel. And, if you don’t, you can start your collection with a brew that’ll make every Stout fan you know swoon!
Or, open it now and treat yourself and (maybe) a very good friend to one of the most celebrated vintages of one of the world’s most beloved Stouts.
