About This Beer

To excavate this flavor cave, the brewers started with a rich, whiskey barrel aged base, with a thick body and a malty backbone. Then they loaded it with plenty of chocolate, hazelnut, and vanilla.

Tasting Notes

Down down down you go, through layers of fudgy flavor punctuated by nuggets of nuttiness. As you free-fall through these delicious depths, you’ll eventually find yourself plunging into a river of boozy vanilla!

Rich fudge with hazelnuts and vanilla as a nice accent, almost dominating the bourbon. A peculiar dichotomy exists in this: one a dense concoction manifesting the aroma and the other a very thin, solvent that comes later. Hazelnut a key contributor to odd balance.

I have long been a fan of Martin House. This is my least favorite from them. Not sure about the base beer, but definitely not a fan of the adjuncts. A rare miss.

a little too much hazelnut which overpowers everything else.

Nutella in a glass. Good carbonation and body for an easy drinking dessert stout.

Creamy head, vanilla aroma with a hint of whiskey, sweet chocolate taste with hazelnut notes, thin mouthfeel, and a black coffee finish with a whiskey kicker.

nuttiness really overpowers the barrel character here. love hazelnuts but the finish tastes of roasted dry peanuts. it’s all yummy but not quite firing on all cylinders.

Barrel aging may have boosted the abv, but I thought base beer’s character was stand alone.

too much adjunct for me, but improved once it warmed a bit and my tastebuds acclimated
