A Note on This Beer
“This special ale reveals unmatched complexity of flavor with a pleasant, bright acidity and is unlike anything else Deschutes brews. Worthy of the name, The Dissident.” –Brewpublic
Oregon’s Deschutes Brewery brewed today’s highly limited, Belgian-style Flanders Oud Bruin with fresh local cherries and Saaz Hops. Inspired by the style’s tradition of long maturation, the brewers fermented the beer on wild yeast before aging it in oak barrels for a whopping 22 months.
This was two years ago, and the 2019 vintage of The Dissident is almost impossible to find now — its spiked cherry pie flavors all but faded into legend.
Though, not for you! As it turns out, the Deschutes crew hid away a small cache of bottles in their cellar, where the puckering fruit flavors mellowed into tangy, complex funk. Every mouthful reveals vanilla and brown sugar characteristics amid the now more delicate, sour-meets-pastry body.
Now’s your chance to try The Dissident (2019) in its fully matured glory. Heck, might want to grab a second bottle while you can — the first one is going to sip down a little too fast.
*Deschutes is one of the biggest names in Pacific Northwest beer, and they’ve got stacks of Oregon Beer Award, Great American Beer Festival, AND World Beer Award gold medals to show for it!
