A Note on This Beer
Nobody actually knows who first paired limes with beer. Some say a lime wedge accidentally got stuck in a bottle, while others say it was added to scare away flies. A Snopes entry has it “unconfirmed” as the result of some old timey bar wager.
Of course, when Gabe Fletcher at Anchorage Brewing adds lime, he does it on purpose to create a sipping experience you can’t get with just any run-of-the-mill grocery store beer.
First, he and his expert Alaskan brew crew double dry-hop today’s IPA with Motueka and Vic Secret for lively flavors of tangerine, passionfruit, and lemon. Then, they enhance its complexity with doses of lime zest!
This Hazy is delightfully fruit forward, its medium hoppy bite punctuated with a citrusy finish. The local fans who’ve been lucky enough to grab sips so far are calling it “Yummy, easy drinkin.’” And, raving that “the lime zest is spot on!”
It’s like if you added a lime straight to an already-tropical IPA, then worked some wizard magic to infuse all the flavors into one lush and pillowy quencher. Which, probably explains why it’s called The Mage.
Thrillist says Anchorage Brewing’s “reputation precedes it as one of the best breweries in the game on a national level, let alone in Alaska.”
