A Note on This Beer
A band walks into a brewery.
It sounds like the start of a dad joke, but it’s actually the story of how today’s The Octagonal Stairway came to be. Virginia’s Dark Beer gods at Adroit Theory teamed up with Pig Destroyer, a.k.a. the dark lords of grindcore music, to craft this lusciously creamy, uber-decadent Imperial Milk Stout!
Going for thick, rich flavors as hardcore and satisfying as the band’s musical fusion of heavy metal and punk, the Adroit crew used copious amount of dark malts and swirled the brew in lactose.
It’s thick and silky as expected with a Milk Stout, but the Adroit team surprises by wrapping it all in delectable roastiness. Every 10.5% ABV sip flows with flavors of bittersweet baker’s chocolate and ground coffee!
The bottom line: The Octagonal Stairway is a masterful brew that exemplifies why Craft Beer & Brewing called out Adroit’s small-batch dark creations as one of the “best beer experiences in Virginia.” And hey, Pig Destroyer isn’t exactly small potatoes either — they’re considered leaders of the grindcore genre!
Of course, we don’t know the next time (or if) they’ll be teaming up to make a delightfully tasty brew again. Time to grab some cans and start rocking to its bold layers of dark decadence.
