A Note on This Beer
Every time we get a new Saison from Gabe Fletcher up at Anchorage Brewing, the Tavour team snatches it up so fast that we barely have any left to sell. Even with the hundreds of beers we get to taste every year, something about Anchorage Saisons always stands out.
There’s a reason these guys are one of Paste Mag’s Best in Craft breweries.
If you were lucky enough to try any of Anchorage’s other 4+ rated Saisons, you probably aren’t reading this because you’ve already hit the order button. But if you haven’t had the good fortune of trying any, boy have we got an introduction for you!
Meet The Return.
This oak-fermented refresher is absolutely dripping with citrusy complexity and slightly spicy nuances, but it’s still totally crushable. And unlike most Saisons, it comes in cans that’ll come along on all your summertime adventures. Plus it’s one of the most affordable Saisons we’ve ever seen, so you can treat all your friends to a sip.
Or just fill your fridge with enough to last all summer long. We wouldn’t blame you a bit, because that’s exactly what we’re doing.
To make The Return, Gabe fermented it in massive, French-oak Foeders (giant barrels) for over two months, adding notes of oak and a touch of mild acidity from Anchorage’s mixed yeast culture. Then he conditioned it in the cans to make it brightly effervescent. That’s a lot of patience and a lot of work.
Crazy right?! A world class Saison from a top-ranked brewery, and you can actually sit around and have a few on a relaxing afternoon without draining your bank account! And that’s awesome because that’s what the style was originally all about — it was brewed by farmers who wanted a light and refreshing summer quencher to drink after a long day in the fields.
Not that you have to toil on a farm all day to enjoy a pint of The Return. Anytime you want something ultra-refreshing but way more exciting than a Lager, this is a go-to brew. Even if all you’ve done all day is sit on the porch and watch the grass grow.
