About This Beer
The Rusty Nail is an epic Oatmeal Stout made with brewer’s licorice, smoked barley, and cassia cinnamon bark. And it spent 15 months in 12-year-old Bourbon Barrels!
Tasting Notes
Every sip of this beast swells on the palate with layers of dark cocoa and spice, atop a finely-tuned whiskey profile. This 2021 vintage clocks in at 12.3% ABV, though rich aromas of molasses, cinnamon, and vanilla cloak it well.

Individually, I like bourbon, licorice, and cinnamon. But … together this really just tastes like cinnamon flavored NyQuil. So, not a pleasant experience.

I feel like they turned the adjuncts up as compared to last year. Almost spicy cinnamon and a noticeable licorice finish. Might do a side by side with last year’s.

One of the best Fremont beers around. Just the right amount of cinnamon on top of the barrel.

An absolutely amazing beer. Tons of flavor, especially the cinnamon presence. Big boozy barrel that is just awesome. Glad I got more than one, and I’ll buy it any time I see it here.

Very much a cinnamon-forward stout. The licorice is sorta there at the end of the palate, after ya swallow.

Yes cinnamon is there for sure, but it is wrapped in a nice sweetness balanced by a bitterness of dark chocolate. Taste is mostly smell and it’s like brown sugar doused Cinnamon Toast Crunch. I really love it and how each sip makes you want more. Thank goodness I didn’t pick up on licorice as I hate it. This is a boozy slapper that will put hair on your chest!

Excellent! Balanced and smooth. One of the best I have ever tasted. I didn’t detect much licorice, mostly cinnamon and chocolate. Would be perfect if it were slightly thicker.

This was disappointing. Almost no barrel presence at all. Not what I've come to expect from these guys.

Well worth the money. Licorice with the cinnamon bark was extremely pleasant (and I don’t even like licorice)

One of my all-time favorites. Licorice was pronounced and delicious. Cinnamon was a wonderful complement. And of course the barrel notes were world class.
