A Note on This Beer
Attention berry fiends,
Here’s the Strawberry Situation:
- Charlotte, North Carolina’s Resident Culture is helmed by Chris Tropeano who previously brewed at Russian River — if you’ve seen his resume, you know he’s an expert on Sour Ales.
- Together, Chris and his crew have been making killer brews at Resident Culture for the past two years, and Craft Beer & Brewing named them a Breakout Brewery!
- To make today’s sticky-sweet Strawberry Situation with Ginger and Lemon, they took 1,000 lbs of local strawberries and used carbonic maceration to extract the brightest, jammiest sunshine of fruit flavor from the berries. Then, they added fresh ginger and lemon to make it zing!
- The only issue — there are only 287 bottles of this berry-filled Fruited Berliner Weisse to go around!
True strawberry fans know what needs to be done under these circumstances: act fast!

Fantastic and complex

A bit bland, almost tasted a little watered down ginger and lemon juice. Cant really taste much strawberry

All the tart of an overripe strawberry and none of the sweetness.

I was excited to try this. Unfortunately the lemon really over powers any ability to even notice strawberry or ginger. Unless you want to suggest this tartness is coming off of under ripe or over ripe strawberry, with none of the sweeter flavors of a fresh strawberry that you would actually hope for. Even the color tells the same story. I bought a 6 pack and I’m quite disappointed. It’s like drinking lemon juice that is somewhat less concentrated.

Lots of sour funk with a hint of berry in the nose. Subtle ginger spice with a healthy balance of berry & lemon peel. Really dry with a lingering toasty burn in the throat. Really nice and unique.
