A Note on This Beer

“Hot damn. This is the way.”

“Cashmere, Galaxy ... say no more!”

“Grapefruit zest, full hops, super drinkable!”

These fans agree: when you want to get away and relax, it’s safe to rely on Anchorage. Their inventive brews are revered by beer geeks the world over — Sip Magazine praises Anchorage for crafting “some of the most coveted pours on the global craft scene!”

That can easily be applied to their delightfully drinkable IPAs, like The Unthinkable.

On its face, this IPA might not seem cutting edge — Anchorage brewed it with a simple duo of Cashmere and Galaxy Hops. But take a sip, and you’ll find that Anchorage’s version of “simple” is more than 1+1=2.

  • At first, the taste of grapefruit and unripe oranges takes the lead with refreshing drops of citrus on the palate.
  • Soon after, a smooth burst of sweet honeydew shines through, like a ray of sun beaming through an open window.
  • On the finish, notes of pine and green grass breeze over the palate as quietly as treetops swaying gently in the wind.

There is a certain kind of freedom that can only be enjoyed with the simpler things. Today, you can start enjoying that freedom with Anchorage by your side.

Consistent sips, but something I can get locally. Not extravagant, but I don’t hate the thought of the next sip. I can smash it as well without pinching my face from the bitterness. It’s good, but not exactly what I’m looking for.

For me this beer is almost perfect. It's dank, it's refreshing, it's dry, it's bitter in the most exciting and stimulating way. There's a fruitiness to it, but the kind I really love tossed into the hop cauldron: an organic citus that tastes as fresh as the orchard I imagine growing at my ranch in California, a few days before peak ripeness when the tangerines, grapefruit, and oranges are tad more on the tart side. This is a brew that's going to deliver the right amount of focus and whimsy for the zenlike euphorial drifting around the party where you'll be ready for the next thing, whatever it happens to be. It's not perfectly smooth or saccharine, and it's not masking some inflated ABV. It's versatile; you're not trying go get fucked up on it; you're gonna have a good time. Whether you end up going back your book, doing some personal reflection on the terrace, joyfully washing up all the dishes though no one asked you too, or snogging a rando in the bathroom, it doesn't matter! It's not trying too hard, and neither should you.

I get a lot of the melon, which admittedly isn’t my favorite flavor. 2nd go around I get more of the lingering pleasant piney finish. I liked this even more. Another Anchorage winner.

Aroma reminds me of soft pineapple, peach, soft herb. In the flavor the fruit is found with bolder floral notes with soft herbal pine. Cashmere hops always come off very floral to me. Good.

Guess I should’ve known better, but Anchorage is such a superb brewery I went with it - just so done with fruitbomb IPAs, not for me..

Citrus and melon on the nose. Grapefruit and orange on the tongue with a hoppy, earthy finish of lemongrass that sticks with the palate. So good!
