A Note on This Beer
Affectionately referred to as “The Vine” by sour fans, Cascade The Vine is a 10.1% ABV,16-month barrel agedeffort of love crafted by the Wild Ale barrel gurus of Portland’s Cascade Brewing.
Each iteration of The Vine is a ratings darling with special characteristics that can’t be replicated. In the 2015 vintage, a plump harvest of Gewürztraminer grapes and a blend of sour wheat and blonde ales coalesce into a white wine symphony resplendent with shades of lychee, green grapes and peachy apricot florals – all this flavor amidst a blissful dry sweetness you can’t stop commenting on.
Due to the hot temperatures in 2015’s harvest, the Gewürztraminer grapes used were deliciously ripe, yielding amplified character that allows the tart fruit medley this variety is known for to really pop. White wine barrels augment the backend with touches of wood and spice.
Cascade Brewing is recognized as a creator of premier Sours and fans across the globe feverishly seek out The Vine vintages at festivals. It’s only recently that limited run bottle releases have begun to trickle past Oregon borders. Pluck this vinous marvel while you can – cellar it or drink it now, but we definitely suggest you share it. Flavor this rich deserves a crowd.
