A Note on This Beer
I first fell in love with the sweet-tart flavors of cherry-vanilla back in 1985. It was the first time my mother made me a cherry cobbler à la mode.
I remember like it was yesterday. The puckeringly sour pie cherries kissed by the sweet creaminess of French vanilla ice cream, all coming together under a heavenly crumble crust. Cake had just taken a backseat to my new favorite dessert — a treat I would request for many birthdays to come.
When I dove into the craft beer scene, I tried many cherry Sours, from Krieks to Lambics, and Goses to Gueuzes. But I never found a brew to match the magnificent character of my mom’s beloved cherry cobbler until I tasted The Wilds Barrel-Aged Sour.
How do I even begin to describe the rustic, fresh-off-the-tree berry bliss you’ll taste in this beer? Imagine abite of warm honey biscuit and bright red cherry compote topped with a cooling scoop of vanilla ice cream. A satisfying oakiness from the barrels amplifies the flavors to a party on the palate that's — dare I say — even better than my mom's cobbler!
Don't tell her I said that though. If she finds out, she'll give me a hard time whenever she sees me enjoying a bottle from the Seattle Fruit Sour specialists at Urban Family — I’ll never hear the end of it!
These crafty cats have been wowing Washington locals with zany 4+ rated Fruit Sours for over five years. And having the good fortune to share the same city with these wonderful Willy Wonkas of tart beer, we’ve been getting the hookups for Tavour members from the jump-off.
If you’ve been pouncing on Urban Family’s sour fruit-bombs for years, I bet you didn’t even read this far before snagging today’s release. If you’re new to the NW Fruit Sour game and intrigued by wild cherry vanilla, then come on and get it!
