Seattle’s nordic-focused Odin Brewing creates a beer fit for Viking royalty with their new Thor Series Bourbon Barrel Aged Russian Imperial Stout. To propel them through long ocean voyages, Vikings drank barrel-aged and strong beers like this one-time release 10.5% ABV Stout. Its striking notes of artisanal bourbon, bittersweet bakers chocolate, and warming nutmeg and cinnamon can power you through any adventure.

To get these layers of bourbon luxury, Odin partners up with Oola -- a Seattle based distillery featured twice in Whiskey Advocate magazine. Add in Odin’s dark beer and high abv expertise, and a smorgasbord of unfolding dark roast and oak complexity emerges.

Caramelized coconut and oak-toasted toffee come across strong, making it clear this Stout spent 6 months in a bourbon barrel. Notes of molasses and rum rise in the air, recalling the bounty on the open seas. On the tongue it's tremendously drying like a quaff of fine Italian aperitif. Notes of tobacco tannins with hints of caramel remind me of a smuggled cigar, before it trails into bakers spices.

We’re all excited to see Thor in the new Avengers movie, but it won’t be nearly as special as this one-time Thor Series release from Odin.
