About This Beer
For this year’s annual release, the brewers at Matchless blended two of their favorite dark beers — a Russian Imperial Stout and an Oatmeal Stout aged in Westward Whiskey barrels — and decided to leave out any additional adjuncts to really highlight the barrel character.
Tasting Notes
Rich caramel notes and a gentle smokey flavor ripple through the roasty malts. Sophisticated hints of woodspice and top-shelf bourbon follow, lingering on the palate. Couple that with the boozy 11.8% ABV, and you’ll be feeling warm and cozy no matter what the weather’s like outside.

too thin

Bourbon barrel upfront with notes of vanilla, coconut, and cocoa nibs. On the tongue there’s additional charred barrel notes with espresso and milk chocolate. Excellent!

Great depth! Definitely on the sweet side, but the bourbon barrel is prominent in the nose, and finishes very smooth. Nice stout!

This one was a surprise. I thought I was in for a pretty average BA stout experience, but it was deep and uncomplicated in the best ways. Just a beautiful marriage of brew and barrel.

Nice malts and dark fruits. Good stout base to support it.
