A Note on This Beer
Tax season’s here, and I couldn’t be more excited! No, I haven’t completely lost my marbles, if you’re wondering.
It’s time for Taxman Brewing’s annual Barrel-Aged Deadline Stout release! They’re turning that tax dread right on its head, and giving us all a reason celebrate.
Usually, the only way to nab a taste of this sumptuous Stout series is at Taxman’s Deadline release block party. But this year, we managed to snag a small stash of Deadline and all four of its variations to share with you!
Deadline (2021) - 14.8% ABV
To kick off your personal ‘end of taxes’ celebration, pour yourself a snifter of the original Deadline Imperial Belgian Stout. To craft it, Taxman used a blend of classic, Belgian artisan malts and Belgian candi sugar for deep brown sugar, molasses, and chocolate notes and a velvety smoothness. Madagascar vanilla beans add a hint of creamy, caramel-like flavor, while Bourbon barrel-aging creates a layer of oaky complexity to complement the boozy finish.
Peanut Butter Cocoa Deadline (2021) - 14.8% ABV
For all you nutty folks who got your taxes done early, you deserve something extra special.
Crack the tab on this peanut butter variant for a rich flavor of liquid Reese’s Cups! The brewers added real peanut butter, cocoa nibs, and vanilla to Deadline. Then, they transformed it into a confection even more luxurious by Bourbon barrel-aging it. This final step lends a little extra vanilla flavor, making it far more decadent than your regular candy treat.
Maple Vanilla Deadline (2021) - 15.3% ABV
Taxman’s head brewer pulled out all the stops for Maple Vanilla Deadline! This variant boasts maple syrup sourced directly from the brewmaster’s family farm, Sugarbush. They added the syrup to a Maple Bourbon barrel-aged base, then re-ferment it with real vanilla. Here it turns into liquid gold — every sip has warm notes of boozy maple and luxurious, woodsy vanilla.
Mexican Chocolate Cake Deadline (2021) - 14.8% ABV
A party ain’t a party unless there’s cake, but we understand if you’ve been too busy crunchin’ numbers to bake. So, how about a big slice of Mexican Chocolate Cake Stout, instead? Taxman conditioned their original Deadline Stout on dried chili peppers, Ceylon cinnamon, cocoa nibs, and vanilla, then aged it in Bourbon barrels. The extra cocoa and vanilla makes it melt in your mouth, and offers a smooth hint of heat from the spices.
Toasted Coconut Deadline (2021) - 14.3% ABV
Now that tax season’s over, you’re probably ready for vacation, or at least a boozy beer that tastes like a much-needed vacay. Time for a nip of Toasted Coconut Deadline! The brewers added real toasted coconut and vanilla so it sips like a melted Mounds chocolate bar! After that, they aged it in Spiced Rum barrels for some serious island flavors. Breathe deeply into your glass, and you’re instantly transported to a tiny island far, far away.
All we’re saying is, if you do press that ‘get it’ button, this year’s tax season is about to be a WHOLE lot tastier!
