About This Beer
In a Paste Magazine blind taste test featuring 102 Imperial Stouts, River North’s Mr. Sandman came out on top as the best Imperial Stout in the world.
It’s really no surprise, considering River North’s reputation as masters of bold, dark brews. Now, the Colorado crafters are back with this bourbon barrel-aged variant, made with real vanilla beans. Mr. Sandman, you’re bringing me the beer of my dreams!
Tasting Notes
Vanilla Bourbon Barrel Mr. Sandman begins with the beloved base beer, full of deep dried date and dark chocolate flavors — not to mention a dangerously drinkable 12.9% ABV! Subtle vanilla notes balance out the waves of rich bourbon in this coveted annual release, imbuing it with even more complexity.

strong uncut bourbon taste, sweet french vanilla really pops, Caramel note that play beautifully with the vanilla and bourbon and a very strong lightly/unsweetened chocolate towards the tail end. all the tasting notes play very well together while at the same time allowing all the notes to shine Independently. absolutely amazing and the notes stay with you for minutes after to really savor the flavor. if you can't handle bourbon but want to know what it's like to drink, then this is the closest you'll get to that and alone it's a damn good drink

absolutely fantastic flavors! I have not been the biggest fan of previous Mr. Sandman flavors, but this one is perfect.

lots of bourbon on the palette and boozy on the nose. not as much vanilla as I was hoping for.

Great roasty flavor profile, cocoa and vanilla finish. lots of heat from the barrel. mouthfeel is pretty thin, other than that pretty tasty!

total drain pour. zero vanilla flavor.

taste is more like a barley wine than a stout as it’s more effervescent on the palate, strong vanilla and cocoa.

Big vanilla aroma followed by bourbon. More vanilla in taste with bourbon and oak on the back end. Maybe some cocoa swirled in but not a lot.
