A Note on This Beer
With just 99 total cases produced, this massively boozy Imperial Porter makes an amazing addition to any serious beer cellar. And it can garner bragging rights for a long time — the crew at River North says beers in this series are made to improve with age for up to two decades!
The Beer:
At 15.9% ABV, it’s immediately obvious that this is not your everyday Porter. In fact, you’ll have a hard time finding a more robust brew in the style anywhere! And because batch sizes are so small (and River North only releases Vicennial series beers every other year) it’s a genuine collectors item.
The rich, roasty body features currents of boozy, whiskey flavor thanks to extended barrel aging. Nuances of woody vanilla swirl against rivers of baker’s chocolate, caramel, and toffee, all balanced by cascades of freshly roasted coffee. And if you store it away, it will grow smoother, richer, and more complex year after year! Will it really reach its flavorful peak in 20 years? We certainly don’t have the patience to find out.
Do you?
The Brewery:
If Denver’s River North Brewery is known for one thing, it’s their absolutely massive Dark Beers. Brews like Shadowman Barrel Aged Stout and God Complex, with tremendous ABVs that will improve for years in the cellar. Or Mr. Sandman, the winner of Paste Magazine’s Imperial Stout Blind Tasting. But fans in the Rocky Mountain State know another side of these Dark Beer masters. They fill their fridges with easy-drinking beers like River North White Witbier and J. Marie Saison. And whether it’s a bottle of Vicennial Father Time Old Ale — designed to cellar for up to 2 decades — or a bottle of Mountain Haze IPA for right now, fans can’t get enough of River North. Hype: According to Paste Magazine, River North makes the best Imperial Stout in the World!
