A Note on This Beer

The Vistula is the longest and largest river in Poland, flowing mightily north from the Carpathian mountains to the Baltic Sea.

For craft fans in South Carolina, however, Vistula is a big Baltic Porter flowing mightily with roasty mocha complexity!

True to the style, Charles Towne Fermentory used Lager yeast to give this Porter a remarkably smooth body and dry finish. Vistula boasts big waves of malty dessert flavors swirled in cacao nib decadence, punctuated on the end with a dry coffee roastiness.

The beer tastes so stacked between all the notes of chocolate and coffee, you might think it packs a crazy level of booze. But, surprise! It clocks in at a comparatively easygoing 7.5% ABV, so you can sip away all evening.

If you’re fast enough to get in on today’s tiny 20-case stash, that is.

With Tavour, it's easy to beer it forward! Just head over to Tavour.com/gifts to send a gift box or gift card to the craft beer lover in your life. Cheers!

Mild chocolate nose. Deep brown pour, almost no head. Creamy mouthfeel. On the palate, dark roast coffee is most predominant, followed by milk chocolate & vanilla ice cream. Pretty darn good porter.

Dark, chewy body. Creamy throughout. Starts off with bittersweet chocolate and cold brew coffee. Turns slightly more roasty with a that mild acidic porter/lager finish. Fantastic beer. Only thing keeping it from a 5 is its a little low carb, bumping up the carb just a little bit would make this perfect for a high gravity porter.

ABV listed on the post doesn’t match what’s on the can but it’s still very good. You can definitely taste a bitter chocolate and coffee. I also found it very hoppy for a porter.

Baltic Porters are on of my favorite styles of beer. This one doesn’t disappoint. Roasty, sweet and a hint of vanilla.

I’m going to give it another chance. I tried at 50 degrees F, lowish on the carbonation Lightly sweet, tastes a lot like Baltic porter with some complexity. I’m going to try it in a chilled glass with a hardy meaty meal. I’d not recommend as your 2nd or 3rd beer of the night on a hot day 😜

I need to try more Baltic Porters. When comparing to the Russian Baltika #6 Porter the taste are on two different levels. I felt this tasted like other porters and that’s fine but very different from a Porter that the Russians do.

This is the best porter that I have ever had. it’s not complicated with a bunch of stuff it doesn’t need nor is it fermented over and over again. It is perfection.
