The crew at Masthead went and dropped their birthday cake…
…right into the mash of today’s Imperial Stout! And hoooooo boy, this celebration-in-a-can sure is “fantastic!” “Magically delicious!” And “rich and decadent!” At least that’s what Untappd fans are calling it. The team brewed it up to celebrate their fifth anniversary!
Tasting Notes
This anniversary Stout is like a bite of funfetti washed down by a swig of spiked hot chocolate! Its slumber in bourbon barrels only deepened its velvety mocha flavors with hints of oaky vanilla and caramel.

very BBA, little to no cake. not bad for what it is but not quite what I anticipated based on the description.

Great chocolate/vanilla stout. Smells and tastes like bourbon. Not really sure where “birthday cake” taste comes from but I didn’t think it mattered. Fantastic stout overall.

big barrel on the nose, but very easy going on the tongue. definitely big chocolates and vanillas. you get some of the birthday cake buttercream in the finish, but not not as much as you’d think.

As a matter of fact, where is that birthday cake? I can’t find any of these flavors advertised in this beer…oh wait, they are all hidden on the bottom…pretty disappointing. I was really looking forward to this one.

Dark chocolate sponge with fudge frosting, liberally soaked in high-proof bourbon, with a touch of licorice and char. I would not necessarily identify the flavors as ‘funfetti cake’, but at this ABV, you may still end up seeing plenty of unicorns!
