A Note on This Beer
Mead is popping up everywhere. It’s on the taplist at my favorite beer bars. It’s on ’Best Of’ lists everywhere, from Untappd to Wine Enthusiast. It’s even showing up in my drinking buddies’ beer fridges!
Which leads me to one, inescapable conclusion: Mead isn’t just for Renaissance Fairs anymore.
I’ll admit that I was skeptical at first. Until I tried today’s rich and caramelly World Harvest from Arizona’s Superstition Meadery! If you’re looking for the cutting edge of craft, it might not be in beer at all. Look no further than ‘honey wine.’
And today, you’ve got a rare chance to snag a taste without trekking down to Prescott.
Paste Mag called Superstition one of the top Meaderies “pushing the envelope,” and today’s hard-to-find brew is an awesome example of why. To make it, Superstition scoured the globe for the very finest ingredients they could find.
They started with two types of local, Arizona honey, but that wasn’t even close to enough.
So they created rich notes of molasses by adding Muscovado sugar from the tiny Island of Mauritius, deep in the Southern Indian Ocean. Then they incorporated Tahitian vanilla beans, imparting waves of creamy smoothness.
Still not satisfied, these flavor-obsessed brewers sourced Sultana raisins all the way from Turkey, adding nuances of dates and figs to the brew. Finally, a touch of Canadian maple syrup imparts hints of butterscotch.
Altogether, World Harvest tastes like freshly baked bread pudding, but wrapped around a rosy-cheek inducing 15% ABV.
If you’re already a fan of Mead, this innovative bottle deserves a spot on your ‘Must-Try’ list. If you’re new to this brew, grab a bottle of World Harvest and introduce yourself and your buddies to what may just be the next big thing in craft!
