A Note on This Beer

If you want “normal” beers, then steer clear of anything from Jester King.

These fabled Farmhouse specialists push the envelope on traditional beer styles, always putting their unique spin on things. This is how they managed to land a spot on Craft Beer & Brewing’s list of the 5 Best Small Breweries in the World!

It’s also why Wild Ale aficionados eagerly seek out Jester King’s titillating treats, like today’s Wytchmaker Farmhouse Rye IPA.

For fans like @sipwithsimms, this is “the beer that changed the way I feel about fermented beverages forever.”

Crafting the base beer with rye grains, the brewers start things off with a pleasant tanginess and nuances of spice. Then, they introduce the hops before finally fermenting the beer with their Farmhouse yeast.

Wytchmaker pours bubbly and light as a result, with thirst-quenching effervescence. Layers of pine and orange citrus from the hops mix with spicy rye and a Brett-like funk on the finish, elevating every sip from “interesting” to “sweet Sour saints! That’s good!”

Unless you’re ready to expand your craft horizons, don’t touch that “Get It” button. Allow someone who will truly appreciate Wytchmaker to get your bottle instead.

Tavour strictly supports independent beer. Jester King Brewery is certified independent by the Brewers Association

It’s a bit too sour for me, TBH. I was hoping to taste more of the spiciness of the rye

Pours golden with a rich head that sticks. Peach on the nose with some hay. Light bodied, grassy and dry. Solid bitterness but almost astringent. Leaves a slightly unpleasant aftertaste. If not for that aftertaste, would be a solid beer.

Nice light rye ipa. Sour is a little short for my taste but hey, it’s jester king, can’t go wrong.

Love it, imagine a sour that's not overly forward with a nice hoppy background and a wheat Finnish, lovely.

Super interesting beer. Brewing mastery. Just a tad too sour for my taste. Was hoping for a bit more hop and rye spiciness. Still pretty good all around. Five stars for uniqueness.

A fruity, tropical aroma on the nose, a hint of grassy aroma from the saison yeast. Slight haze to the gold color. Dry, oh so much dryness and slight bitterness, like sucking on a grapefruit rind, to the flavor. Grassy/earthy flavor one expects from a saison. It took me two days to finish, I had to give my palette a rest. I'm impressed they were able to get this much dryness, but I almost wish they didn't.

This rye beer runs 7.3% and Pours a corn bread yellow hue with well retained head. Aromatics of lemon grass, orange zest, clover and hibiscus!... sipping notes roll tide: grapefruit zest, light rye spice, modest funk... crisp when icy cold, silky when breaching ambient temperatures...finishes astringent and slightly bitter but not dry. As with most jester king offerings, this one is challenging and fun! Stay away if your not adventurous! Lol
