We’re halfway through August and pumpkin spice drinks are already popping up. But this year, it’s not Starbucks or other coffee shops who are early. Craft breweries are taking everyone’s favorite fall flavors and weaving them into delightful seasonal beers!
Ohio’s Hoppin’ Frog Brewery released their Great American Beer Festival Gold Medal-winning Frog’s Hollow Double Pumpkin Ale in cans for the first time. Delivered to craft beer drinkers through online retailer Tavour the first week of August, the acclaimed brew packs an impressive array of ingredients: pumpkin, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, allspice and clove. Double Pumpkin Ale comes with a boozy 8.4% ABV too, which, naturally, is more than its coffee counterparts can boast.
For pumpkin spice lovers who missed out on Hoppin’ Frog’s rendition, the beer app has more Autumn-flavored brews on the way. Heads up: they all clock in at 7.8% ABV or higher.
Pappy’s Pumpkin Pie Ale from Hardywood Park is arriving at the end of August. Already a seasonal favorite in the brewery’s Virginia hometown, Tavour will bring the cinnamon, vanilla bean, toasted coconut, and lactose-brewed sipper to other states. Later in September, Hardywood Park also plans to send out a Rum Barrel-Aged Pumpkin Farmhouse Ale to Tavour members.
Another Rum Barrel-Aged Pumpkin Ale is slotted for early September — this time from Rahr & Sons in Texas. Their version is Rumpy, and it comes with a whopping 9% ABV.
For pumpkin spice aficionados who also want a head start on the Halloween spirit, there’s Braaaiins! Pumpkin Ale for Zombies from Spring House Brewing Co. in Pennsylvania. Also hitting Tavour in early September, this beer contains what the Spring House team calls “generous amounts of real pumpkin” and “a touch of traditional Autumn spices and sweet dough.”
With craft beer getting creative and the Tavour app delivering straight to people’s doorsteps, the days of waiting in coffee shop lines for a pumpkin spice fix may very well become a thing of the past!
