2020 MASSIVE (Bourbon Barrel Aged) - 14% ABV

This is the OG variant, and fans still clamor for every release. Like every variant of Massive, the brewers used a long, hot boil to caramelize the sugars, creating rich waves of candied date and toffee flavors. 

Bourbon barrel-aging adds notes of woody vanilla and whiskey caramel, while also smoothing out the body. No wonder this beast is highly ranked just about everywhere!

2020 Massive (Reposado Tequila Barrel Aged) - 14% ABV

The same decadent flavors of the thick-bodied base beer, but this time, kissed by the sweet Agave flavors of Reposado Tequila barrels! The slight herbaceousness of the booze adds a subtle spicy note to the brew, upping the already impressive complexity.

2020 Massive (Rum Barrel Aged) - 14% ABV

The sweet, syrupy flavor of rum really dials up the caramel-molasses profile of the base beer, and hints of clove and a bit of coconut flavor make for a dazzling finish. It’s tropical, but also warming and wintery — a great bottle to open by a crackling fire.

2020 Massive (Anejo Tequila Barrel Aged) - 14% ABV

For this version, the brewers let Massive slumber in Anejo Tequila barrels. Notes of almond brittle and plenty of oak. Taste this one side by side with the Reposado, and you might be surprised by how much more sweet caramel flavor it delivers!

2020 Massive (Pinot Noir Wine Barrel Aged) - 14% ABV

In this variant, light, vinous notes from the barrels elevate the overall fruitiness of the beer, bringing all those date and fig flavors to the forefront. If you let it linger on your tongue, flavors of plum, grape, and even blueberry unfold across the palate.

2020 Massive (Port Wine Barrel Aged) - 14% ABV

We rarely see any beer aged in Port barrels. But, after tasting this, we really wish they were more common! Nuances of raspberries and blackberries pull the fruity flavors of the base beer forward, while subtle hints of cinnamon and allspice add bakery-like depth.

2020 Massive (Scotch Barrel Aged) - 14% ABV

A whisper of smoke and a dash of pipe tobacco flavor from the Scotch barrels make this variant even more belly-warming than the rest! It might also be the oakiest one, with woody vanilla flavors that linger long after the final sip.
