A Note on This Beer

Cones for a Cause: Modist crafted their NEIPA by hopping and double dry-hopping with hand-selected Citra, Citra Cryo, Mosaic and Mosaic Cryo. Feel Good Flavors: It brims with gigantically juicy layers of ripe mango, zesty and refreshing citrus, bursting berry, and sweet evergreen notes. Thoughtful Textures: every sip feels velvety smooth and opulently thick thanks to Pilsner malts and flaked oats.

NYC’s Finback Brewing started The Breathing: Conversations project to inspire conversations about racial inequality in the brewing community and beyond. Now, 40 breweries around the country are participating in this important work!

Breweries proudly feature the Breathing: Conversations label and put their own unique twist on a unified IPA recipe. Then, they choose a quote for the label to spur sustained dialogue about racial injustice, in the hopes of creating positive lasting change.

Modist’s Breathing: Conversations release is a delicious way to join the discussion.

Breathing: Conversations not only tastes good, it does good too! The brewery will donate 100% of their proceeds to the Minnesota Brewing Change Collaborative — a community organization with a mission to foster diversity, equity, and inclusion for people of color in the brewing industry through advocacy, outreach, and education.

By snagging a few cans of today’s special edition from Modist, you can show your support for MBCC and play your own integral part in the Breathing: Conversations project. We can’t think of a better reason to raise a glass!

Dry finish on this really nice complex DDHIPA. Light and crisp, but a very unique mouthfeel to savor

From the pour, the nose is dank and tropical hop notes. Unfortunately, things go downhill a bit from there. The good news is that the beer has the basics right. The mouthfeel is solid. Dense and correctly carbonated with a smooth finish. Malt seems like a good backbone that provides body without being too sweet. Bitterness is very light, and I could use much more. The biggest problem though, is the flavor. The hops are grassy for sure and there is even a slight peppery spice. I am not even sure where all of the weirdness comes from in this beer. The aftertaste is pretty terrible, almost like plastic. Somehow it tastes both raw and old at the same time. The flavor is just not good and unfortunately that is the only available flavor note. Something here isn't right.

A thinner finish than I prefer for an IPA. Still very drinkable.

Beer is lacking but the message is great wish I could give it a higher rating but it’s a 3.2 flavor reminds me of a better version of liquid citra crystals

This has to be a skunked can, three different people tried before we dumped it.

Perhaps it was a skunked can? But it tasted like dirty dishwater I had my buddy try it and he spit it out immediately. Great message on the van, not so great beer.

New England IPAs are quickly becoming my favorite style. This is an excellent beer with an equally great cause and message behind it. Juicy, a bit tropical, and super smooth. A nice crispness to boot. Lovely balance of hops. Two Thumbs Up!

Decent citrus start if not a bit thin but the end has an herbal thing going on that’s a bit odd. Still not bad.

The message is beautiful, and was expecting a beautiful NEIPA. It's not bad, the citrus notes are nice but the piney notes towards the end will have you appreciate your ability to breathe.
