A Note on This Beer
The brewers at Atlanta’s Monday Night first met at a Bible study group. They sounded so wholesome, we were a little surprised when we tried today’s Dark Subject Matter Imperial Stout.
This ink-black sipper is all Saturday night and no Sunday Morning, the kind of beer that parties hard and sleeps in late. It’s bold and roasty, it’s got massive notes of pure cocoa from dark chocolate malt, and its 12% ABV is straight-up badass.
It seems this Bible study group has a bit of a dark streak!
This is the kind of beer that helped earn the Atlanta brewery a spot on Vinepair’s 10 Best Breweries of 2018. And Dark Subject Matter continues to push them to the forefront of the craft scene. It’s already got an impressive 4.16 on UT, and just check out some of these comments from fans:
“Thick, sweet, delicious.” - Beer B
“Crazy heavy in a good way.” - Steve
“Smoothest motor oil I’ve ever had.” - Chase C
If you want to get a taste of the beer that has these folks so excited, today’s your lucky day. This sinful Stout barely jumps Georgia’s state lines, and never leaves the Southeast, so this is an unheard of opportunity to grab a taste without flying to Hotlanta.
Open the can and robust chocolate aroma hits you like a fudgy slap in the face. Burly roasty notes follow with just a hint of sweet cigar smoke and a little bit of char. On the finish, it’s smoother than silk, completely hiding the big ABV in more waves of chocolate and a little coffee-like bitterness.
Dark Subject Matter is perfect for those nights when you’re feeling a little evil, but with its smooth chocolate flavor it’s also great if you need a dark treat at brunch. It’s big, roasty, boozy, and bold. In other words, it’s everything an Imperial Stout should be.
