A Note on This Beer
All of us hopheads take pride in the IPAs we select, and it’s always a thrill to show them off.
Whether you’re going camping with your friends this spring, or you’re staying a little closer to home, you’ll need to be prepared with brews that’ll impress the pants off everyone.
That’s why I put together these eight cans of six different juicy IPAs!
These brews represent a cross-country sampling from some of the finest hop-handlers around. But, watch out — they aren’t for the faint of heart. Each one clocks in at 7% ABV or higher!
Here’s what you have to look forward to:
Aslin Beer Co. & Heist Brewery - Living To Get Radical — 9.3% ABV x1 can
Some beers are born radical, and others have radicalness thrust upon them. Somehow, this vanilla and coconut-infused Imperial IPA is both!
To brew it, the craft confectioners at Virginia’s Aslin Beer Co. partnered with their buddies at Heist Brewery in North Carolina. They dry-hopped this Hazy with Azacca, El Dorado, and Simcoe Hops for flavors of ripe mangoes, juicy peaches, and zesty oranges. Then, they conditioned it on toasted coconut and Madagascar vanilla.
Each silky-smooth sip is like savoring a slice of coconut cream pie topped with sliced mangoes and peaches!
Celestial Beerworks - Triple Stars — 9.2% ABV x2 cans
Celestial Beerworks was among the first to brew Hazy IPAs in Dallas, TX. These days, their NEIPAs showcase 4+ ratings across Untappd, and Triple Stars is one of their most impressive yet. It rocks a massive 4.35 score!
The brew comes triple dry-hopped with Strata, Vic Secret, and Citra. Every plush mouthful transports the taste buds to heavenly heights of gushing OJ, sweet passionfruit, and ripe pineapple. Melon wafts in on the end for a dank finish. But, what really makes Triple Stars so craveable is its ultra-full body from malted wheat, raw wheat, and flaked wheat.
With a mouthfeel this soft and sippable, you’ll have to remind yourself to savor slowly.
Modist Brewing Co. - Double Ghost Vision (2021) — 8.6% ABV x2 cans
The multi-Minnesota Brewers Cup Award medalists at Modist only release Double Ghost Vision once a year. It’s quite a shame for the fans like @Jason F., who call it “One of my top 5 all-time favorite Hazy beers!” But, it’s quite a blessing for you!
To create this 4.30 UT-rated masterpiece, the brewers used a massive pile of hand-selected Citra, Citra Cryo, El Dorado, and El Dorado Cryo Hops. Every sip features tangy pineapple and bright citrus flavors, along with just a hint of pine on the finish. And, it all swims through a pillow-soft body from plenty of oats and wheat!
You don’t need perfect eyesight to see that Double Ghost Vision is a strong contender for a top 5 spot on your own list of all-time Hazies.
Mountains Walking - Grazing Clouds — 7% ABV x1 can
I always like to start out strong with a proven winner. With a North American Beer Awards Gold Medal under its belt, Grazing Clouds is definitely that!
The Montana brewers at Mountains Walking packed this sumptuous beverage full of FIVE hop varietals! Columbus and Amarillo Hops deliver subtle swells of lush lychee, ripe peach, and a whisper of pithy grapefruit. Then, double-dry hopping with Waimea, Motueka, and NZ-32-2 conjures sweet waves of nectarous mango, drippy tangerine, zesty mandarin orange, and a dash of kush.
Fluffy and puffy like a cloud itself, this brew will help you start off the festivities the right way.
Four Fathers Brewing - Sumo Not Judo — 8% ABV x1 can
Entering the ring with powerful orange juice, grapefruit, and melon flavors, this New England-style Double IPA packs a sumo-sized 6 lbs per barrel of Citra and Mosaic Hops. That’s TWICE the amount in an average IPA, and it all comes wrapped in a lively ABV!
It’s from Four Fathers Brewing, too, a growing force on the Midwest craft circuit. The beer experts at Local 219 named these Indiana Brewers Cup medalists one of the “best breweries in Northwest Indiana, without question.”
If I were you, I’d be ready to belly-bump anyone who gets a little too close for comfort when you’re drinkin’ this beauty.
Turning Point Beer - Australian Kiss — 8.7% ABV x1 can
The Texas crew at Turning Point say this beer is their “love note to Australia’s incredible hops.” This is one love note that could make just about any haze-head swoon!
Crack open the can, and sultry aromas of grapefruit, pineapple, and melon come swirling out to wrap your senses in a tropical embrace. Take a sip, and be prepared for one heck of a smooch from piles of Vic Secret, Ella, and Galaxy Hops.
With this level of lushness, you might prefer to keep this one all to yourself. It’ll just be you and Australian Kiss, together forever. Or at least, until your can runs dry.
When you head outdoors this spring, let your buddies worry about packing the snacks and the steaks. This time, you’re bringing the beer.
