A Note on This Beer

A sip of The Brewing Projekt’s Evil GMA is like digging into my favorite Thanksgiving dish — mashed sweet potatoes with a layer of toasted marshmallows!

The brewery loaded this Imperial Pastry Stout with real sweet potatoes, cinnamon, marshmallows, and nutmeg! This combination provides all the fixin’s for a full, velvety-smooth beer.

I just know it’ll be a hit at this year’s get-together. If there’s one gene that runs through my family, it’s the one that loves a good beer more than almost anything.

This means, a 30-rack of cheap Macro isn’t going to cut it at family gatherings — I’ll be bringing this silky Stout to my discerning kin.

My grandmother is notoriously hard-to-please, but like me, her love for Pastry Stouts AND sweet potatoes is exponential, so this is a win-win. I know the rest of the family will go crazy for this decadent brew, even granny!

Food & Wine calls The Brewing Projekt one of their 19 Craft Breweries Worth Going Out of Your Way For!

Weirdly satisfying. It's as close as you'll get to sweet potato pie & marshmallows in beer form that's for sure! I personally wouldn't classify it as an imperial pastry stout, as it's a bit light all around for that, minus the sweet part. But it is one that I would get again to pass around as a "you've got to try this!" beer.. Make sure to gently roll/swirl the can before pouring.. The sweet potato settles at the bottom and the "chunks" don't look that appealing. Lol.

Flavor profile is accurate. Sweet potato and nutmeg in a can. Just didn’t find it pleasing.

This is a hefty brew! Truly a meal in a can with lovely cinnamon and nutmeg notes. A slow sipper, to be sure!

I think I like it but not 100% sure how much. I definitely don’t hate it.

Not really a stout. Tastes more like a sour beer that is attempting to imitate a stout.

Perfect expression of sweet potato in a beer. Hits every note it claims.

I never thought I’d have a sweet potato pie stout but this was close to a pumpkin beer. Nice balance on the spice.

Weirdly good. Interesting creaminess and you can taste the adjuncts. Tastes like a stout sweet potato casserole

Not my favorite, thin body and had a sort of chemically off-brand cola taste almost to it.

It’s true exactly what it said. I did not enjoy it as a drinking beer. I did find it makes a wonderful marinate for steak that’s going into the smoker though.

Probably the best pastry stout I've ever had. The spice notes are perfectly balanced and the marshmallow comes through adding creaminess. You don't need sweet potato casserole when you have this beer.

Sweet and creamy. Getting a lot of the spices, specifically the nutmeg at the back.

Tasty to be sure, you absolutely get all of the flavors starting with sweet potato and cinnamon finishing with the nutmeg and marshmallow in my opinion. Drank while eating chocolate, I don’t consider this to be the heaviest “meal” stout, rather a great combination to have after a meal. I read a note about sourness and I do agree with that, not sure where it comes from. Very tasty to be sure but hard to give it over four stars as my immediate impression or thought goes to it being a stout. Instead it’s reminiscent of a dark beer with an edge
