A Note on This Beer
On September 21, 2018, the people of California heard that fated ping: Mother Earth Brew Co. was live on Facebook. Craft beer fans ducked out of Board meetings; diverted their attention from the kids’ soccer game; and were, for once, grateful that traffic in San Diego was at a standstill.
Enraptured, they watched Mother Earth gloriously crack-n-pour this year’s Autumn 2018 Bourbon Barrel-Aged Oatmeal Stout with Burnt Sugar and Toasted Coconut. The vintage blend mixes Bourbon Barrel-Aged Stouts for what the brewer calls “quite possibly our most complex beer yet.”
Time stopped again when those Cali Stout lovers finally smelled the aroma of fresh-baked chocolate cake and top-shelf Bourbon. Nuances of cinnamon, allspice and roasted chestnuts lingered like the memory of seasons past. Roasty dark chocolate and a warm 12.5% ABV were inspiration enough to stop everything and savor. The inclusion of steel-cut oats made it taste like bread pudding with a molten chocolate center -- Autumn’s finest comfort food.
California might have 365 days of Summer, but this brewery creates four seasons for its fans with its each instance of their Four Seasons of Mother Earth series. And as their fans watched Autumn 2018 ooze with sweet inky viscosity, the time between Summer and Winter stopped.
