A Note on This Beer
“Lord willin’ and the creek don’t rise” is a favorite phrase of my grandma’s. I remember being a little kid and asking, “Grandma, will you come to my birthday party?” to which she would smile warmly and reply, “Lord willin’ and the creek don’t rise, baby.”
It was her own, quirky way of saying, “hopefully!”
So, when I saw that Casita Brewing Co. was releasing a Baltic Porter with that clever name, I had to snag a can. And hopefully there’ll be some left for me by the time I finish writing this, since we’ve got less than 27 cases to go around!
In addition to a stellar name, everything about this big and bold style is amped up from your everyday Porter — more body, more flavor, and more booze.
In fact, this baby weighs in at a noteworthy 9.3% ABV!
It’s full of the rich and complex flavors of roasted coffee, dark chocolate, raisins, and a hint of black licorice. I even smelled a whiff of worn leather, reminiscent of my dad’s favorite armchair. And, all of that complexity is wrapped up in a smooth, sippable body.
If you’re unfamiliar with Casita Brewing, that’s OK — they just opened their doors at the start of September, making them one of the youngest breweries on Tavour!
But, don’t let their youth fool you — they’re seasoned veterans in the world of craft beer. They’ve been brewing all over the world for the last 14 years, including in Denmark, England, and the craft beer capital of the U.S., Vermont. Now, they’ve settled down in their hometown of Wilson, NC.
But, their small batch brews rarely leave their home state. So, if you’re itching to get your paws on a powerful Porter, now’s your chance!
*Casita frequently collaborates with superstars like Tired Hands, whom they’ve known since they were both home brewers!
