About This Beer
With a pint of this beer in hand, I’m basically a lumberjack. Leaping from tree to tree through the forests of Maine, the scent of campfire in my clothes, and a whiff of delicious maple syrup from breakfast in the bristles of my burly beard.
Of course, I’m not really a lumberjack. I probably wouldn’t last a day felling timber. But I do have a plaid shirt and fridge full of Sap Haus.
Tasting Notes
This maple-spiked Smoked Dark Lager from the folks at Oxbow Brewing is exactly the kind of beer a bunch of real woodsmen would enjoy. Crack the can and mild campfire aromas come flickering out, tempered by notes of toffee and maple. The sip follows, with subdued smokiness, slightly sweet and bready malts, and a hint of syrup.

The smokiness is good, but maple syrup doesn’t come through much. It’s malty, on the heavy side. Sadly, there’s a really harsh bitter finish that’s ruining all the fun here.

this is a really good Smokey beer. there certainly is a bitter finish but that does not take away at all from the enjoyment. I was hoping for a bit more sweetness since it was brewed with maple syrup. all in all a good beer
