A Note on This Beer
The Lost Abbey won Small Brewery of the Year at GABF way back in 2007, just months after they opened. Then they won Champion Small Brewery in 2008 at the World Beer Cup, and they’ve been racking up awards ever since!
And today we have one of their most beloved seasonal releases: Serpent’s Stout. In this case, the serpent must be an anaconda, because this 11% ABV beast is freakin’ huge!
To create it, the California malt-masters brew two different mash bills so they can extract every bit of flavor from the grains. Then, they combine the worts, add yeast, and ferment the brew in bourbon barrels.
Active fermentation in the barrel means the Stout picks up even more caramelly whiskey notes and oaky vanilla nuances than would be possible with simple barrel aging!
Open a bottle, and get ready to experience massive aromas of candied fig, fresh espresso, and hints of anise. Take a sip, and it will bathe your taste buds in dark chocolate essences and roasted coffee beans. And it’s so chewy-thick, you’ll be tasting complex mocha notes long after the last sip is swallowed.
So, snag a bottle of Serpent’s Stout before our little supply runs out. Or maybe grab two — one to share with your Stout loving buddies right away, and one to stash in the cellar. Because this decadent brew will grow richer, smoother, and more chocolate-forward for years to come.
