A Note on This Beer
We’ve got a busted heater in my house and temps in Seattle are falling to just above freezing. To cope, I’ve been burying myself in blankets and Googling images of sun-soaked beaches. If I had known about today’s Oxbow’s Surfer Rossa earlier, I would’ve just reached for a can or two, instead.
This Farmhouse Ale is a beer for anyone who wants to bring summer back, and quick!
The crew at Maine’s Oxbow Brewing are experts at crafting Farmhouse Ales. Hop Culture raves about how they’ve established themselves as one of “the most highly regarded and well-respected producers [of Farmhouse Ales] not just in the state, but their whole region!”
For those not in the know, Grisettes are wheat-heavy Farmhouse Ales that are low in strength — this means any adjuncts present will play a starring role in each sip.
Brewed with heaps of Italian blood oranges and an easygoing 4.5% ABV, Surfer Rossa is one extremely crushable, bright, and fruity Grisette. I can crush can after can, and make my mental vacation to Bora Bora last as long as I need it to!
The citrus additions imbue every sip with notes of sweet orange and pink grapefruit tang. An accompaniment of salt plays off these flavors to make it taste like eating a freshly peeled tangerine at the beach as the sea teases your sandy feet.
Each sip is a dose of sunshine and warmth. Which is why I’ve already grabbed a handful of cans for the impending cold to come. You might want to do the same!
Thrillist named Oxbow one of the BEST breweries in Portland, Maine!
