A Note on This Beer
According to legend, Mixology pioneer Donn Beach invented the Zombie cocktail back in 1934 to help a hung over customer get through a business meeting.
Apparently Donn overshot the booze, because the customer stumbled back in later complaining that the drink had ‘turned him into a Zombie.’ If only he’d had today’s Tropic Level: Zombie Fruited Sour from Modist Brewing, he could have coasted through his day with a smile.
Not that we’d ever suggest drinking beer before a business meeting (wink wink). But, if you’re going to anyway, this tangy, tropical brew is a fantastic choice. The brewers loaded it with epic quantities of passionfruit, pineapple, red grapefruit, orange, lemon, lime and a touch of cassia cinnamon.
Wheat in the mash gives it an ultra soft body, like it was poured straight from a blender, while a dose of brown sugar creates hints of molasses flavor, just like the dark rum in a tropical cocktail!
It really does taste like something Mr. Beach himself might have whipped up, except the 8.5% ABV won’t leave you staggering around like the undead. Unless you tip back a few cans, which you probably shouldn’t do before a business meeting. Save that for a sunny Saturday afternoon.
Modist was named Most Innovative Brewery at the Minnesota Brewers Cup Awards!
