Before Nick Mader opened his Kansas City brewery, he thought long and hard about what to call it. He settled on Alma Mader because 1) it’s a play on his last name; and 2) it symbolizes everything the brewery is about. Like thoughtfully crafted brews and always being a student of the brewing arts, no matter how many beers he’s created. It’s also a nod to Nick’s hometown. “Personally it represents a return home to Kansas City which I consider my life’s alma mater. It is a city I feel very connected to and has provided me with the foundation to move around the country to pursue not only my brewing career, but also my ultimate dream of opening this brewery.” And wow, has that dream ever come true! These days, Alma Mader is mostly known for its IPA prowess, wowing fans with Hazies like Habit Loop and Dripping Green. But they also keep a foot firmly planted in tradition with classics like Premaint Pilsner and Meadow Festbier.
