Jackie and Scott Cullen started River Styx as a passion project when their daughter left for college. An experiment out of their basement rapidly grew, and it became emphatically clear to everyone who tasted their brews that River Styx was ready to go commercial in 2015. Since then, the brick and mortar brewery has already undergone a massive renovation more than doubling their brewing capacity. Nicknamed the Underworld, the now-destination brewery leans heavily into the Greek motif, with lanterns dangling from the ceiling and murals from Greek mythology on the walls. The beers are similarly named after mythology – those named after gods are based on Scott’s recipes, and the goddess names are Jackie’s creations! It’s safe to say their beer is nectar fit for the gods. Their bold Imperial Stouts and herculean IPAs are particular favorites.
